Professor Batchvarova’s research focuses on the physics of the atmospheric boundary layer, particularly mixed-layer dynamics, internal boundary-layer development over coastal and heterogeneous terrain, and the extension of meteorological profiles for operational weather and air-quality modelling. The analytical and applied models for daytime mixed-layer growth and coastal internal boundary-layer development that she developed with Sven-Erik Gryning have become established references in the field, supporting regulatory air-quality assessments in Europe and beyond. She has authored 82 peer-reviewed publications, with an h-index of 21 and more than 1,100 citations, reflecting a sustained combination of theoretical insight and practical relevance. Her representative publications in Boundary-Layer Meteorology, the Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, and Theoretical and Applied Climatology address mixed-layer growth and entrainment, coastal internal boundary layers, wind-profile extension, and urban boundary-layer meteorology, collectively reflecting a career dedicated to connecting fundamental atmospheric physics with the operational requirements of environmental prediction and protection.
