Petar Getsov
Profile:
Elected Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences on 17 May 2013, Professor Petar S. Getsov is a distinguished Bulgarian aerospace engineer and a leading figure in the development of Bulgaria’s modern space and unmanned aerial systems programmes. Born in Samovodene, Bulgaria, on 20 October 1950, he graduated from the Higher Air Force Military Academy in 1974 with an M.Sc. in avionics and flight dynamics and later earned his Doctor of Technical Sciences (D.Sc.) in ballistics and aircraft control in 2012. From 1996 to 2018, he served as Director of the Space Research and Technology Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, overseeing a period in which Bulgaria further consolidated its position as a spacefaring nation. He currently serves as Chief of the Aerospace Control Systems Department and Chairman of the Institute’s Scientific Council. A Corresponding Member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Academician of the Russian Academy of Cosmonautics, and Chairman of the Bulgarian Astronautical Federation, he has also served as Director and Chief Engineer of Bulgaria’s second cosmonaut programme, combining scientific leadership with national strategic aerospace development.

His research centres on the design, modelling, and control of aerospace systems, particularly unmanned aerial vehicles, hybrid propulsion, avionics integration, and semi-natural flight-control simulation. Author of 290 scientific publications and 15 monographs and textbooks, he holds more than 65 rationalisations, patents, and licences, including eleven implemented innovations with significant economic impact. His representative works address hybrid propulsion for multirotor UAVs, catastrophic failure modelling in transport aircraft, trajectory optimisation for UAV surveillance, tandem helicopter and multirotor configurations, and unmanned aerial monitoring systems for urban environments. Together, these contributions reflect a career spanning the Intercosmos era to the contemporary development of autonomous flight, advancing aerospace control technologies while supporting applications in environmental monitoring, national security, and space exploration.
