Profile:
Elected Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences in 2021, Professor Biao Jiang is a distinguished Chinese chemist whose career has encompassed green chemistry, life and health sciences, and international science and technology cooperation. Born in November 1962 in Saiqi, Fu’an, Fujian Province, he received his B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry from Lanzhou University and his Ph.D. through a joint programme between Lanzhou University and the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry (SIOC), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He began his research career at SIOC in 1990, progressing from Assistant Researcher to Research Professor and doctoral supervisor, and served as Director of SIOC from 2003 to 2009. He subsequently served as Vice President of the Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, CAS, from 2012 to 2017, and as Executive Director of the Institute of Immunochemistry at ShanghaiTech University. Since 2017, he has served as Director of the CAS Bangkok Innovation Cooperation Center and currently holds positions as Distinguished Professor at ShanghaiTech University and Executive Chairman of the World Laureates Association. He was elected a Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Engineering in 2023. His contributions have been recognised through more than forty distinctions, including two National Science and Technology Progress Awards (Second Prize), two Qiushi Awards, two China Industry–University–Research Institute Cooperation Awards, the UNEP Award for Outstanding Achievement in Environmental Protection, and the CAS Award for Outstanding Contribution.

Professor Jiang’s research has focused on the integration of green chemistry with life and health sciences, particularly the development of environmentally benign synthetic methodologies, bioactive natural products, and their translation into practical and industrial applications. Through leadership of major national research programmes and international collaborative initiatives, he has promoted the application of chemical innovation to challenges in environmental protection, health, and sustainable development, while contributing to the industrial translation of scientific research. Since taking responsibility for the CAS Bangkok Innovation Cooperation Center, he has played an important role in strengthening science and technology cooperation between China and ASEAN countries, particularly through joint research, technology transfer, innovation incubation, and the development of international scientific networks under the Belt and Road Initiative. These efforts have supported the Center’s role as a platform for China–ASEAN scientific and technological cooperation and contributed to broader regional collaboration in research and innovation. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and holds multiple patents, while also contributing to the training of a new generation of researchers. Collectively, his work reflects a sustained effort to connect fundamental chemical research with industrial application and international cooperation, addressing broader challenges in sustainable development, public health, and science and technology collaboration across China and Southeast Asia.
