Professor Cheng’s research has focused on the development and clinical translation of biochip technologies for disease diagnosis, drug screening, and personalised medicine, with particular emphasis on microfluidic systems, gene-expression profiling, and point-of-care molecular diagnostics. Through leadership of major national research programmes and international collaborative initiatives, he has contributed to the development, standardisation, industrialisation, and clinical application of biochip technologies in China. He currently serves as Convener of the Biomedical Engineering Discipline Review Group of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, Chairman of the National Technical Committee for Biochip Standardisation, Vice President of the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering, and Expert of the National Bio-industry Development Advisory Committee of the National Development and Reform Commission. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading journals and holds multiple patents, with his contributions recognised through national awards for scientific and technological progress. He has also supervised and trained a generation of biomedical engineers and researchers. Collectively, his work reflects a sustained research programme connecting micro- and nanobiotechnology with molecular diagnostics, precision medicine, public health, and the industrial development of biomedical technologies.
