Professor Feng’s research has focused on safety science and engineering, pyrotechnic and propellant technology, and the application of advanced materials, with particular emphasis on the chemistry of energetic materials, combustion mechanisms, and industrial safety systems. Through leadership of major national research programmes, including projects under the National 973 Programme, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and National Science and Technology Tackling Key Problems programmes, he has contributed to the development of theoretical approaches and engineering methodologies in safety science and energetic-materials research. His work has encompassed the fundamental chemistry and combustion behaviour of energetic materials as well as the application of safety principles to complex industrial systems. He has authored more than 600 peer-reviewed publications in Chinese and international journals and has supervised and trained researchers and engineers in safety engineering and defence-related technologies. As Co-Convenor of the Safety Science and Engineering Discipline Review Group of the Seventh Session of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, he contributed to the development of academic and professional standards for the discipline. Through sustained research leadership, scientific administration, and international academic collaboration, Professor Feng has contributed to connecting fundamental materials chemistry and energetic-materials science with practical applications in industrial safety, engineering risk management, and defence technology.
