Elected Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences in 2023, Professor Shengzu Gu is a distinguished Chinese economist and public policy scholar whose work has contributed to economic management, innovation policy, and regional development. Born in 1956, he received his Ph.D. in Economics from Wuhan University, where he has pursued an academic career as Professor and served as Director of the Institute of Strategic Management. His academic and professional work has combined research in economics and strategic management with extensive engagement in public policy and national development. He served as Vice Chairman of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Standing Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the China National Democratic Construction Association. His earlier public and academic service also included appointments as Vice Mayor of Wuhan, Vice Governor of Hubei Province, and Vice Chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce. Through these roles, he participated in economic policy consultation and research concerning regional development, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

Professor Gu’s research has focused on economic management, innovation-driven development, urbanisation, and financing for small and medium-sized enterprises, with particular emphasis on the institutional and policy conditions supporting economic transformation and entrepreneurial development. His research and policy studies have addressed the relationship between innovation, entrepreneurship, regional economic restructuring, and sustainable development, while his academic and advisory work has contributed to discussions of China’s innovation and development strategies. He has authored numerous academic publications and policy studies and has led or participated in major research programmes concerning economic development, management, and innovation policy. His work has also examined the financing environment and institutional constraints faced by small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as the role of entrepreneurship and innovation in regional economic development. In recognition of his contributions to economics, management, and public policy, he has received a number of academic and professional distinctions, including the Fudan Management Lifetime Achievement Award. Through sustained research, policy consultation, and public service, Professor Gu has contributed to connecting economic analysis with practical questions of innovation policy, entrepreneurship, regional development, and economic transformation in China.
