Chuanjie GUO
Profile:
Elected Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences in 2014, Professor Chuanjie Guo is a distinguished Chinese polymer chemist, computational chemist, and science policy scholar whose career has combined research in chemical science with leadership in science administration and higher education. Born in China, he received his degree in Elemental Organic Chemistry from the Department of Chemistry at Wuhan University in 1967. He began his research career at the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), where he worked from 1970 to 1987, progressing from research scientist to project team leader and laboratory head. From 1981 to 1983, he conducted visiting research at Cornell University in the United States. In 1987, he joined the CAS headquarters and subsequently held a series of senior positions, including Deputy Director of the Bureau of Science and Technology Policy, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Planning, and Director of the Academic Divisions Liaison Office, now the Bureau of Academicians. He later served as Deputy Secretary-General of CAS. From 1997 to 2005, he served as Deputy Secretary of the CAS Party Group, followed by his appointment from 2005 to 2008 as Secretary of the Party Group and Party Secretary of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), where he concurrently served as Chairman of the University Affairs Committee.

Professor Guo’s research has encompassed polymer chemistry, computational chemistry, and science and technology strategy and policy, with particular emphasis on the molecular design of functional polymers and the application of computational methods to chemical systems. Alongside his scientific work, he has played a sustained role in national science policy formulation and institutional governance, contributing to strategic planning within China’s scientific research system, reforms in the national academy system, and the development of research universities. During his tenure at USTC, he contributed to the advancement of the university’s research infrastructure and international academic engagement. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in polymer and computational chemistry and has also contributed extensively to national discussions on science and technology policy. Collectively, his career reflects a sustained engagement with both fundamental chemical research and the institutional development of science and higher education, linking advances in chemical science with broader efforts to strengthen research capacity and innovation systems.
