Elected Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences in 2005, Professor Dayi Hu is a distinguished Chinese cardiologist and medical educator whose career has contributed to the development of interventional cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology, and cardiovascular disease prevention in China. Born in July 1946 in Kaifeng, Henan Province, with ancestral roots in Neihuang, he received his M.D. from Beijing Medical College, now Peking University Health Science Center, in 1970. He subsequently developed his clinical career at the First Affiliated Hospital of Beijing Medical College, progressing from Resident Physician to Chief Physician. From 1985 to 1987, he undertook advanced training in cardiac electrophysiology and interventional cardiology at the State University of New York and the University of Illinois at Chicago. He later served as Associate Professor and Professor at the First Affiliated Hospital of Beijing Medical University and, from 1993 to 2000, as Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, Capital Medical University. In 1999, he was appointed Director of the Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and Director of the Department of Cardiology at Peking University People’s Hospital, where he established the Interventional Center and the Department of Cardiology. He concurrently served as Director of the Cardiovascular Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center at Beijing Tongren Hospital and Director of the Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases at Capital Medical University. In 2003, he was appointed Dean of the School of Medicine at Tongji University, and in 2006 became Director of the Xiamen Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases.

Professor Hu’s research and clinical work have focused on interventional cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology, and cardiovascular disease prevention, with particular emphasis on the introduction and localisation of percutaneous coronary intervention, radiofrequency catheter ablation, and cardiac pacing technologies in China. Through clinical practice, technological innovation, and medical education, he has contributed to the development of cardiovascular diagnostic and treatment capabilities and to the training of cardiologists in China. His work has also extended to cardiovascular disease prevention and rehabilitation, including the establishment of the “Healthy Heart, Healthy Life” public health campaign. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and several monographs, and his contributions to cardiology and medical education have been recognised through multiple national and international awards. Through long-term engagement in cardiovascular research, clinical practice, medical education, and public-health initiatives, Professor Hu has contributed to connecting advances in clinical cardiology with broader efforts in cardiovascular disease prevention, rehabilitation, and health education.
