Professor Hua’s research has focused on cardiac electrophysiology, cardiac pacing, and the prevention of sudden cardiac death, with particular emphasis on the clinical application and optimisation of implantable cardiac devices. As principal investigator, he has led the National Tenth Five-Year Plan Key Project on ICD Application and Sudden Cardiac Death Prevention, sub-projects of the National 973 Programme, key projects supported by the Capital Science and Technology Development Fund, and multiple international collaborative research projects. In January 2026, as corresponding author, he and his collaborators reported in Nature Biomedical Engineering a capsule-sized miniature symbiotic self-powered leadless cardiac pacemaker. He has authored or co-authored more than ten monographs and over 100 peer-reviewed publications as first author. His work has received one National Science and Technology Progress Award (Second Prize) and three Chinese Medical Association Science and Technology Progress Awards (Second Prize). With clinical experience encompassing more than 8,000 cardiac pacemaker implantations, over 1,000 ICD implantations, and more than 1,000 cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) implantations, Professor Hua has contributed to the clinical development and application of cardiac device therapy in China. Collectively, his clinical, research, and academic activities reflect a sustained programme connecting advances in cardiac electrophysiology and implantable-device technology with clinical practice, patient care, and the training of cardiovascular specialists.
