Professor Kuang’s research has centred on photosynthesis, with particular emphasis on photosynthetic membranes, the structure and function of chlorophyll–protein complexes, and the mechanisms underlying efficient light-energy conversion. She has led national major research programmes, including serving as Chief Scientist of the National Key Basic Research Programme (973 Programme) on “Mechanisms of Efficient Light-Energy Conversion in Photosynthesis and Their Application in Agriculture”. Her research has addressed the organisation of the photosynthetic apparatus, excitation energy transfer, and the molecular basis of photosynthetic efficiency, contributing to the understanding of photosynthetic energy conversion and its applications in agriculture. She has authored more than 400 peer-reviewed publications and has received the National Natural Science Award (Second Prize), the Chinese Academy of Sciences Science and Technology Progress Award, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences Natural Science Award, among other distinctions. She was also named a National Outstanding Young and Middle-Aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions. Through sustained research and leadership in national scientific programmes and international collaboration, Professor Kuang has contributed to connecting fundamental research in plant physiology and photosynthesis with applications in agricultural productivity, bioenergy, and sustainable food production.
