Elected Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences in 2008, Professor Jinghe Liang is a distinguished Chinese obstetrician and gynaecologist whose career has focused on gynaecological oncology, minimally invasive surgery, and women’s health. Born on 18 April 1940 in Jilin Province, he entered the Department of Medicine at Norman Bethune University of Medical Science (now the Norman Bethune Health Science Center of Jilin University) in 1959 and graduated in 1964, subsequently joining Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH), Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. He received advanced training in gynaecological oncology in Norway in 1985 and Canada in 1986. From 1986 to 1993, he served as Vice President of PUMCH, and from 1993 onward as Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He was elected a Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2011. He currently serves as Honorary President of the International Society for Minimally Invasive Therapy, a Member of the Academic Division of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, and Distinguished Lifetime Professor at Peking Union Medical College. In 2022, he received the Wu Jieping Medical Prize.

Professor Lang’s research has focused on obstetrics and gynaecology, with particular emphasis on gynaecological oncology, minimally invasive therapy, and the integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine in women’s health. His clinical and research work has addressed the diagnosis and treatment of gynaecological malignancies, the development and application of minimally invasive surgical techniques, and approaches to comprehensive women’s healthcare. He has authored more than 700 peer-reviewed publications and 20 monographs, and has received twelve national and Beijing Science and Technology Progress Awards, as well as the Ho Leung Ho Lee Prize for Science and Technology Progress in 2004. Through leadership in major national medical research programmes and participation in international scientific collaboration, Professor Lang has contributed to connecting advances in clinical gynaecology and minimally invasive therapy with medical education, integrated approaches to women’s health, and the development of clinical practice in China and internationally.
