Elected Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences in 2018, Professor Shipeng Li is a distinguished Chinese information scientist whose research and professional work have focused on artificial intelligence, multimedia computing, computer vision, and intelligent systems. Born in August 1967 in Weihai, Shandong Province, he received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Department of Radio Electronics at the University of Science and Technology of China in 1988 and 1991, respectively, and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University, Pennsylvania, USA, in 1996. From 1996 to 1999, he served as a Research Scientist at Sarnoff Corporation, Stanford Research Institute, USA. In May 1999, he returned to China to co-found Microsoft Research Asia, where he served as Principal Researcher, Vice President, and Microsoft Partner until 2015. He subsequently served as Chief Technology Officer of Cogobuy Group and its subsidiary IngDan Technology in 2015, Vice President of iFLYTEK Group and Co-Dean of the iFLYTEK AI Research Institute from 2018 to 2020, and was appointed Chief Scientist of Hichen Technology in October 2023. He currently serves as Director of the Institute of Applied Intelligence at the Suzhou Industrial Technology Research Institute and Head of the Low-Altitude Economy Research Center at the International Digital Economy Academy (IDEA) in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a national specially appointed expert.

Professor Li’s research has centred on artificial intelligence, multimedia computing, computer vision, and intelligent systems, with particular emphasis on foundational AI technologies and their applications in industrial innovation and the emerging low-altitude economy. During his tenure at Microsoft Research Asia, he was involved in the development of the institute’s research programmes in artificial intelligence and related areas, contributing to research and training activities in computer science and engineering. His subsequent work in industry and technology research has focused on translating advances in artificial intelligence into applications including speech recognition, intelligent hardware, and industrial automation. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and holds multiple patents, and has received international awards for contributions to information science and technology. Through continued research, innovation, and collaboration across academia and industry, Professor Li has contributed to connecting advances in artificial intelligence and multimedia computing with applications in industrial digital transformation, intelligent manufacturing, and emerging technologies associated with the low-altitude economy.
