Elected Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences in 2016, Professor Xiaojian Li is a distinguished Chinese economic geographer whose research and professional work have focused on regional development, enterprise location, and international investment. Born in August 1954 in Mengjin, Henan Province, he received his B.S. degree from the Department of Geography at Henan University in 1982 and began his academic career there, progressing from lecturer to associate professor in 1991 and professor through special promotion in 1993. From 1986, he pursued advanced studies at the Economic Research Institute of Nankai University and undertook postdoctoral research at the University of Kansas, USA, in 1995. He taught at Pittsburg State University, USA, from 1995 to 1997 and served as a Research Fellow in the Department of Geography at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1997. In 1996, he was selected as a national-level candidate of the National Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand Talent Project. His academic and administrative appointments at Henan University included Director of the Department of Geography in 1994, Dean of the School of Environment and Planning in 1998, and Vice President in 2001. He subsequently served as President of Henan Institute of Finance in 2003 and President of Henan University of Economics and Law from 2010 to 2015. He was appointed Doctoral Supervisor at East China Normal University in 2000 and at Henan University in 2001. Professor Li currently serves as Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at Henan University.

Professor Li’s research has centred on economic geography, regional development, and enterprise location theory, with particular emphasis on the spatial organisation of economic activities, the geography of foreign direct investment, and regional development strategies in central China. His work has addressed the relationships between globalisation, urbanisation, industrial restructuring, and regional economic development, as well as the spatial distribution of enterprises and investment. Through national research programmes and international academic collaboration, he has contributed to the development and application of economic geography in China. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and monographs and has received multiple national and provincial science and technology awards. Through sustained research, academic leadership, and engagement with regional development studies, Professor Li has contributed to connecting theoretical research in economic geography with practical questions of regional coordinated development, urban–rural integration, and sustainable economic transformation.
