Elected Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences in 2011, Professor Yang Li is a distinguished Chinese economist whose research and professional work have focused on fiscal and monetary policy, financial development, macroeconomic regulation, and financial system reform. Born in September 1951 in Huainan, Anhui Province, he received his B.A. in Economics from Anhui University in 1981, his M.A. in Economics from Fudan University in 1984, and his Ph.D. in Economics from Renmin University of China in 1989. He subsequently joined the Institute of Finance and Trade Economics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), where he was promoted to Research Professor by special appointment in 1995. In 1997, he was selected as a national-level candidate of the National Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand Talent Project, and from 1998 to 1999 he conducted visiting scholar research at Columbia University, USA. He was named a National Outstanding Professional and Technical Talent in 2002. His academic and institutional appointments included Director of the Institute of Finance at CASS in 2003, election as a Member of the CASS Academic Division in 2006, concurrent service as Director of the Economics Division, and appointment as Vice President of CASS in 2009. In 2015, he was appointed Chairman of the National Institution for Finance and Development (NIFD). He was named a First-Level Research Professor of CASS in 2021. Professor Li currently serves as Chairman of NIFD and President of Wenzhou Business College.

Professor Li’s research has centred on fiscal and monetary policy, financial development, macroeconomic regulation, and reform of China’s financial system, with particular emphasis on financial development, financial risk prevention, macroprudential regulation, and the internationalisation of the renminbi. Through national research programmes and policy-oriented research, his work has addressed the theoretical and practical dimensions of financial system reform, financial stability, debt sustainability, and macroeconomic management. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and policy reports and has contributed to academic and policy discussions on financial governance and economic reform in China. Through sustained research, institutional leadership, and engagement with policy-oriented economic research, Professor Li has contributed to connecting economic analysis with practical questions of financial governance, macroeconomic stability, financial risk management, and sustainable economic development.
