Yongxiang LU
Profile:
Elected Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences in 1999, Professor Yongxiang Lu is a distinguished Chinese mechanical engineer whose research and professional work have focused on fluid power transmission and control. Born on 28 April 1942 in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, he graduated from Zhejiang University in 1964 and received his Dr.-Ing. from RWTH Aachen University, Germany, in 1981. He was elected a Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (then the Academic Divisions) in 1991, a Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and an Academician of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). He has also served as Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences since 1999. Professor Lu served as President of Zhejiang University from 1988 to 1995, President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chairman of the Presidium of the CAS Academic Divisions from 1997 to 2011, Vice President of TWAS from 1998 to 2006, and Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 11th National People’s Congress from 2008 to 2013. He currently serves as Honorary President of the China Industry-University-Research Institute Collaboration Association.

Professor Lu’s research has centred on fluid power transmission and control, with particular emphasis on the theoretical foundations and engineering applications of electro-hydraulic proportional and servo-control technologies. During the 1980s, he developed approaches based on “system flow detection force feedback” and “system pressure direct detection and feedback”, integrating these with electromechanical-hydraulic integrated cartridge technology to develop electro-hydraulic control components and engineering systems. These technologies have been applied in engineering machinery, metallurgical equipment, and industrial automation. Author of numerous peer-reviewed publications and monographs, Professor Lu has received the National Higher Engineering Education Award, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Prize for Science and Technology Innovation, and the China Mechanical Engineering Society Science and Technology Achievement Award. Through sustained research, academic leadership, and participation in national scientific and engineering programmes, his work has contributed to the development of fluid power engineering and its applications in industrial equipment, automation, and engineering systems, while his academic and institutional service has supported the development of engineering education, scientific research, and technological innovation in China.
