Elected Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences in 2010, Professor Yisheng Shao is a distinguished Chinese water systems scientist and urban development specialist whose research and professional work have focused on water resources, water environments, and urban water security. Born in January 1958 in Jiangshan, Zhejiang Province, he received his M.S. from Peking University in 1983 and subsequently pursued doctoral studies while working. In October 1999, he was appointed Director of the Urban Geographic Information Systems Engineering Technology Research Center of the Ministry of Construction. From September 2013, he served as Party Secretary and Vice President of the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design. He currently serves as Research Professor at the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design.

Professor Shao’s research has focused on water resources and water-environment science, with particular attention to urban water-system management, water-supply security, and the integration of water-resource management with urban development planning. Through research programmes and engineering platforms concerned with urban development and water management, he has contributed to the development of approaches to urban water security, the application of geographic information systems to urban water management, and planning strategies for resilient urban water infrastructure. His professional work has encompassed scientific research, technical planning, and the development of engineering approaches to urban water management and environmental protection. He has authored peer-reviewed publications and technical reports in these fields. Through sustained research, professional leadership, and engagement with urban planning and water-management practice, Professor Shao has contributed to connecting water science with practical questions of urban sustainability, water security, environmental management, and resilient urban development.
