Elected Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences in 2003, Professor Guangtao Wang is a distinguished Chinese civil engineer and urban planner whose professional career has encompassed urban construction, urban planning, housing policy, and environmental governance. Born in June 1943 in Shanghai, with ancestral roots in Xiuning, Anhui Province, he graduated from the Department of Urban Construction at Tongji University in July 1965 and received his M.Eng. in Road and Bridge Engineering from the same university in 1981. He joined the Communist Party of China in December 1983 and was elected to the 16th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. He served as Minister of Construction and subsequently as Chairman of the Environment and Resources Protection Committee of the 11th National People’s Congress. He has also held a number of academic and professional positions in urban development and related fields. Professor Wang currently serves as Secretary-General of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences (Beijing), as well as Adjunct Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at Tsinghua University, Tongji University, and Beijing University of Technology, and Honorary Professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Professor Wang’s professional work has focused on urban development, housing and municipal infrastructure, environmental protection, and sustainable urbanisation. Through his work in government administration, legislative affairs, and higher education, he has participated in the development and implementation of policies concerning urban construction, housing, environmental protection, and urban development in China. He has also authored policy reports and scholarly articles addressing urban development and sustainable construction, including issues related to liveable cities, green building, and sustainable urbanisation. His subsequent academic and advisory activities have continued to address questions of urban governance, environmental management, and sustainable development. Through sustained professional service, academic engagement, and international cooperation, Professor Wang has contributed to connecting civil engineering and urban planning with practical questions of urban governance, environmental protection, and sustainable urban development.
