Jianpan WANG
Profile:
Elected Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences in 2015, Professor Jianpan Wang is a distinguished Chinese mathematician whose research and professional work have focused on algebra, representation theory, and quantum groups. Born on 2 January 1949 in Gutian County, Fujian Province, he was sent to work at the Luanlong Production Brigade, Fengpu Commune, Gutian County, from March 1969 to February 1972. He subsequently worked as a private mathematics teacher at Pingnan No. 1 Middle School from 1972 to 1973 and as a playwright for the Pingnan County Fujian Opera Troupe from 1973 to 1978. In 1978, he enrolled at South China Institute of Technology before transferring to East China Normal University (ECNU), where he received his M.S. in Pure Mathematics in 1981 and his Ph.D. in Pure Mathematics in 1982, becoming one of the early doctoral graduates in mathematics in China after the Cultural Revolution. He joined ECNU as a lecturer in 1983, was promoted to Associate Professor in 1986 and Professor in May 1991, and served as Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Virginia, USA, from January 1989 to June 1990. At ECNU, he subsequently served as Deputy Director and Director of the Department of Mathematics, Vice President from 1994 to 1997, and President from March 1997 to December 2005. From March 2013 to August 2015, he served as Dean of the Meng Xiancheng College at ECNU and was appointed Honorary Dean in September 2015. He currently serves as a Second-Level Professor at ECNU.

Professor Wang’s research has centred on algebra, with particular emphasis on the representation theory of Lie algebras and quantum groups, algebraic groups, and invariant theory. Through sustained mathematical research and participation in national research programmes and international academic collaboration, he has contributed to the development of quantum group representation theory and modern algebra in China. His research has resulted in numerous peer-reviewed publications and monographs and has contributed to the advancement of mathematical research and postgraduate education. In parallel with his academic work, his leadership at ECNU and engagement with national mathematical organisations have supported the development of mathematics education, teacher training, and the cultivation of researchers in the mathematical sciences. Through sustained research, academic leadership, and international collaboration, Professor Wang has contributed to connecting fundamental mathematical research with higher education, mathematics education, and the development of scientific talent in China and across the Eurasian region.
