Elected Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences in 2001, Professor Liheng Wang is a distinguished Chinese aerospace engineer whose research and professional work have focused on missile propulsion technology, aerospace systems engineering, and the management of major aerospace programmes. Born on 26 December 1938 in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province, he graduated from the Rocket Engine Programme at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1962. He was elected Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2003 and is also an Academician of the International Academy of Astronautics and the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences. He currently serves as Chairman of the Science and Technology Committee of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) and as a Research Professor. Following graduation, he was assigned to the 22nd Institute of the Third Sub-Academy of the Fifth Research Academy of the Ministry of National Defense, where he held a succession of technical and managerial positions, including Project Team Leader, Deputy Director and Director of a research laboratory, and Deputy Director of the 31st Institute of the Third Academy of the Seventh Ministry of Machine Building. In 1984, he was appointed Vice President of the Third Academy of the Ministry of Aerospace Industry, followed by appointments as Chief Engineer in 1988 and Vice Minister in 1990. In 1993, he became Deputy General Manager and Deputy Party Secretary of China Aerospace Industry Corporation and concurrently served as Deputy Director of the China National Space Administration. From 1999 to 2001, he served as General Manager and Party Secretary of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.

Professor Wang’s research and professional work have centred on missile propulsion technology, aerospace systems engineering, and the management of national space programmes, with particular emphasis on liquid-fuelled rocket engines, missile propulsion systems, and large-scale aerospace engineering projects. Over more than four decades of technical and managerial work in China’s aerospace sector, he participated in the development and organisation of major missile and space programmes, contributing to advances in propulsion systems, launch capabilities, and the development of China’s space infrastructure. His professional work has also encompassed aerospace engineering management, technical planning, and the coordination of large-scale research and development programmes. He has authored technical reports and policy papers addressing aerospace engineering and programme development and has contributed to the development of aerospace research and industrial organisations in China. Through sustained engineering research, technical leadership, and management of major aerospace programmes, Professor Wang has contributed to connecting advances in propulsion engineering and systems engineering with applications in space launch, satellite systems, human spaceflight, and the broader development of China’s aerospace capabilities.
