Professor Wei’s research has centred on microwave electronics, molecular electronics, bioelectronics, and biomedical imaging. She established an early laboratory in China devoted to molecular and bio-molecular electronics and developed doctoral education in bioelectronics. Her research contributed to the development and application of microwave CT, ultrasound CT, diffraction CT, and B/A nonlinear parametric tomography for biological tissue, as well as the extension of CT techniques to materials testing and quality inspection. She also investigated the fundamental properties of molecular devices and molecular computing systems and developed approaches to molecular device design, while participating in the establishment of international academic organisations in molecular electronics and biocomputing. She has published more than 300 scientific papers and supervised researchers at master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral levels. Since 2002, she has led the Research Centre for Learning Science at Southeast University, where she has supported the development of research platforms and doctoral programmes in neuro-education and neuro-information engineering. She also initiated the national “Learning by Doing” inquiry-based science education programme and participated in the development of China’s primary-school science education standards. Through sustained research, academic and educational leadership, and engagement in science education, Professor Wei has contributed to connecting molecular electronics and biomedical engineering with the development of bioelectronics, educational technology, and inquiry-based science education in China.
