Zhaoguang YANG

Elected Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences in 2011, Professor Zhaoguang Yang is a distinguished Chinese environmental scientist whose research and professional work have focused on water resources, environmental science and engineering, analytical chemistry, and water and wastewater technologies. Born in 1948, he graduated from Central South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, now Central South University, and moved to the United States in 1979, receiving an M.S. from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology and a Ph.D. from the University of Nevada, Reno, followed by postdoctoral research in environmental biotechnology. Over more than three decades in the United States, he held research and engineering positions at the University of Nevada, the US Bureau of Mines, the Desert Research Institute, and Westinghouse Electric Corporation. In 1998, he was appointed by the Government of Singapore as Director of Research and Chief Scientist of the Institute of Environmental Science of the National Environment Agency. Following its integration into the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources in 2002, he served as Vice President and Chief Scientist of its Advanced Water Technology Centre and as Chief Technologist of the Public Utilities Board, while holding adjunct professorships at the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University. He returned to China in 2011 and founded the Centre for Environment and Water Resources at Central South University, where he is currently Director, Chief Scientist, Professor, and Doctoral Supervisor. He also serves in professional organisations and national consultative committees concerned with water research, urban water pollution control, drinking-water safety, and environmental protection.
