Feng ZHAO

Elected Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences in 2020, Professor Feng Zhao is a Chinese computer scientist whose career has focused on the Internet of Things (IoT), wireless sensor networks, networked embedded systems, mobile computing, and the translation of research into industrial applications. Born in 1962, he received his bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1984 and his master’s and doctoral degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1987 and 1992, respectively. He began his academic career at Ohio State University, where he served as a tenured Associate Professor from 1992 to 1997. From 1997 to 2004, he was Chief Scientist at Xerox PARC, where he established research on sensor networks, while also serving as a Consulting Professor at Stanford University. He subsequently held senior research positions at Microsoft Research Redmond and Microsoft Research Asia, including Principal Researcher, Microsoft Partner, and Executive Vice President, leading work in networked embedded computing, the Internet of Things, big data, and computer systems and networks. From 2015 to 2019, he served as Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Haier’s Home Appliance Industry Group. He is now Distinguished Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University and Chief Scientist of its Institute for AI Industry Research, as well as an Investment Partner at Eight Roads. A Fellow of the IEEE and an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow, he was the founding Editor-in-Chief of ACM Transactions on Sensor Networks. His career has combined academic research, industrial research leadership, technology development, and the training of researchers across the United States and China.
