Jianping FAN

Elected Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences in 2020, Professor Jianping Fan is a distinguished Chinese computer scientist whose career has contributed to the development of high-performance computing, advanced research institutions, and technology-driven innovation in China. Born in November 1963 in Jungar Banner, Ordos, Inner Mongolia, he received his B.S. from Nankai University in 1984 and his Ph.D. in Engineering from the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), in 1990. He joined the institute upon graduation and subsequently held a series of research, engineering, and management positions, including Project Team Leader, Deputy Chief Engineer of the Intelligence Center, Deputy Director of the Institute, Executive Vice President of Dawning Corporation, and Vice President of Lenovo Research Institute. In 2006, he was appointed Founding Director of the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology (SIAT), CAS, where he served until 2023 and led its development from an initial five-person team into a multidisciplinary research institution with approximately 4,300 members. From 2018, he also served as Director of the Preparatory Office of Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology and, in 2024, was appointed President and Deputy Party Secretary of the newly established university. A Fellow of the China Computer Federation (CCF), he has received the Shenzhen Mayor’s Award (2014), recognition among the 40 Innovative and Entrepreneurial Figures of the 40th Anniversary of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone (2020), and the National May 1st Labour Medal (2022).
